PDF Snake
DocumentsImpose PDF, JPEG, and PNG documents for print production with the PDF Snake Web API, driven by a steps document you design visually. Agents prepare print-ready files without a prepress operator in the loop.
What This Integration Enables
Everything else in this category makes a document readable. PDF Snake makes it printable, and that is a different and much less forgiving problem. Imposition is the prepress step where pages are arranged on a press sheet so that after printing, folding, trimming and binding they land in the right order and the right orientation. Get it right and nobody notices. Get it wrong and you find out after the sheets are cut, because a wrongly imposed file is a perfectly valid PDF that opens cleanly and looks fine on screen. This connector puts that step inside a flow, which is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly: PDF, JPEG and PNG go in, and a press-ready imposed file or a ZIP archive with a page manifest comes back.
The design decision that makes it automatable is the steps document. You build the layout visually in the PDF Snake web app, export it with "Export steps to CLI", and then replay that artifact against any file in your flow. One steps file can drive any PDF Snake tool: Booklet, Grid for n-up, Cards, Gang, Shuffle, Split, Rotate, Crop, Resize, Flip, Nudge, Overlay, Insert Pages, Header or Footer, Color Bar, Cutter Marks, Calendar and Expert Grid. All measurements inside it are in points, at 72 points to the inch. The practical consequence is that the layout stops being tribal knowledge and becomes a versioned file that a flow can apply consistently. Billing is by bytes transferred rather than by request, with at least 4 MB deducted per successful imposition, which is why the connector also exposes the remaining balance and can watch it for depletion.

Use Case Scenarios
Booklets From a Watched Folder
A client sends finished artwork for a folded pamphlet on no particular schedule. The file lands in Dropbox and the agent picks it up, reads the byte balance to confirm the job can complete, and calls Impose Document with the steps file that was designed and approved for this client's standard pamphlet: trim size, bleed, fold pattern, cutter marks and a color bar all baked in. The result comes back as a ZIP with the page manifest, and the proof plus the manifest post to the production channel in Slack. What used to be a queue item behind one operator becomes a job that is ready for approval within minutes of arrival.
Ganged Sheets of Small-Format Items
Business cards, postcards, labels and stickers are wasteful to print one design per sheet. A Grid or Gang steps file arranges multiple copies or multiple designs on a single press sheet with the correct gutters and cutter marks. The agent applies it to every artwork file from the week's orders, using the Split step where a job needs to come back as separate files and choosing the ZIP output format so the page manifest is included. Fulfillment records in Printful or the print partner's system get the imposed file attached, and the sheet count feeds the material order.
Watching the Meter Before It Stops the Line
PDF Snake bills by bytes transferred, so a large overnight batch can exhaust the balance partway through and leave half a job imposed. On Low Byte Balance fires when the remaining balance drops below a threshold, once per crossing rather than repeatedly, and does not fire again until the balance recovers and falls back. The agent uses that event to post an alert to production and, where a top-up path exists, to raise the request before the next batch is scheduled. Get Byte Balance runs as a precondition on any large run, so a batch either starts with enough budget to finish or does not start.
Human-in-Loop Highlight
The steps file is a fixed artifact designed against one trim size, one bleed, one fold pattern and an assumed page count. Replay it against a document whose page count is not a multiple the fold requires and the booklet comes back with blank signatures in the middle. Replay it against artwork built to a different bleed and the cutter marks fall inside the live area, trimming the client's logo off every copy. Neither case produces an error. Impose Document returns a valid PDF, the file opens, the byte balance is deducted, and the flow records a success. The error becomes visible after the sheets are printed and cut, at which point the entire run is scrap and the reprint is somebody's margin. So the agent does the imposition and stops before the press: it posts the imposed proof to the prepress approver with the specifics, "Job [ref] imposed with steps file [name]. Source [N] pages, imposed to [M] sheets, fold pattern expects a multiple of [K]. Bytes consumed [amount], balance remaining [amount]. Proof and page manifest attached. Release to the press queue?" This is the digital andon cord in its most literal setting. The line runs on its own until something needs a judgment that cannot be recovered afterward, and then it stops and asks.
Agent Capabilities
2 actionsImposition
1- Impose Document Imposes a PDF, JPEG or PNG through the PDF Snake Web API and stores the result in FlowRunner file storage. The layout is driven entirely by a steps JSON document designed visually in the PDF Snake web app and exported with "Export steps to CLI", the same artifact PDF Snake's own Make.com and Zapier integrations consume. It can drive any PDF Snake tool including Booklet, Grid for n-up, Cards, Gang, Shuffle, Split, Rotate, Crop, Resize, Flip, Nudge, Overlay, Insert Pages, Header or Footer, Color Bar, Cutter Marks, Calendar and Expert Grid. All measurements inside the steps JSON are in points, at 72 points to the inch. Supply the Overlay or Insert file only when the steps contain an Overlay or Insert Pages step, and make sure its file name matches the name recorded in the steps. Choose the ZIP output format when a Split step produces several files or when the page manifest is needed. Calls are billed by bytes transferred, with a 4 MB minimum deduction per successful imposition.
Account
1- Get Byte Balance Retrieves the number of bytes remaining that can be transferred to and from the PDF Snake Web API. PDF Snake bills by bytes transferred rather than by request, and every successful imposition deducts at least 4 MB, so this is the precondition check to run before a large or batched job commits. The megabytes value is derived from the raw byte balance for convenience.
Triggers
1 triggersEvent Triggers
1- On Low Byte Balance Fires when the remaining PDF Snake byte balance drops below a threshold, so a flow can top up credit or alert an operator before impositions start failing. The balance is read from the PDF Snake Web API on each cycle and the event fires once per crossing, so it will not fire again until the balance recovers above the threshold and falls back below it. The polling interval is configurable with a minimum of 30 seconds.
